Dear Music Educators,
I am writing to inform you about my recent
faculty appointment to the University at Buffalo Music Department. I hope
that you might be able to recommend qualified and interested
young brass students to me. The last opportunity for auditions
this year is April 5.
My current duties at UB include teaching trumpet,
directing the Symphonic Band, leading a jazz/chamber combo, and
classroom teaching. One of our long term goals at UB is to create
a performance intensive atmosphere for all wind players at the
school. Students who are accepted as majors in Music Performance
may take advantage of the many performing opportunities that
are available at UB, and will also be able to attend the numerous
on-campus concert events that take place here.
The performing organizations at UB are quite
varied; UB Symphony, UB Symphonic band, jazz band/combos, trumpet
ensemble, brass quintet, and mixed chamber groups. These ensembles
provide all students with an exceptional opportunity to learn
a diverse range of repertoire, and to broaden their knowledge
of all styles of music. This year's UB Symphonic Band repertoire
has included works by Gustav Holst, W.A. Mozart, Frank Zappa,
Thad Jones, Modeste Mussorgsky, Richard Strauss, and King Crimson,
as well as ethnic music from Mexico and Brazil. As a performer/conductor/composer/arranger,
I believe that creative programming is the cornerstone of a varied
and comprehensive musical education.
If you would like more information on my professional
qualifications, please look further on this site. Students desiring
further information can also call the Student Programs Office
at (716)-645-2758. All hard working wind players are welcome
to apply.
Sincerely,
Jon Nelson Music Faculty University at Buffalo
