UB Symphony Orchestra

The UB Symphony Orchestra, comprised of nearly 70 UB students of a variety of majors, professors and community members, is conducted by Music Director Dr. Rachel Lauber. The orchestra presents at least three public concerts in Lippes Concert Hall each year. Membership in the UB Symphony Orchestra is open to all UB students, faculty and community members by audition. Audition repertoire and excerpts are available online as of August 1 of each summer. Auditions take place during the first week of classes.

Audition Information

The University at Buffalo Symphony Orchestra (UBSO) is a full-size orchestra which holds mandatory auditions for all members at the beginning of the Fall semester (first week of classes). All UB students, teachers and community members are welcome to take the audition and are eligible to join the orchestra following a successful audition. UB students, you must register before taking the orchestra audition. Please see the course numbers below. Musicians are welcome to contact the conductor throughout the year to audition and discuss joining the orchestra.

MUS 138 - for undergrad non-music majors
MUS 338 - for undergrad music-majors
MUS 538 - for graduate students

Audition Requirements

  1. Please fill out the Google Form
  2. Then sign up for a day and time on the Google Doc

You will only have a confirmation for the date and time of your audition if your Google Form is completed and submitted.

STRINGS, WOODWINDS, and BRASS will prepare two contrasting sections of a solo piece.
