UB Symphony Orchestra
Christian Baldini – Music Director
The UB Symphony Orchestra is a full-size orchestra which holds mandatory auditions for all members at the beginning of each semester.
Be an important part of your University's Symphony Orchestra and showcase your talent with the UB Community!
We are now welcoming new members to join the orchestra for the Fall 2009 semester.
There are students from several different majors (as well as graduate students) in our orchestra, and we encourage participation of everyone (regardless of their major) interested in playing some of the best music ever written.
The orchestra performs at least two concerts per semester in Lippes Concert Hall (Slee Hall), as well as some extraordinary community outreach projects, such as our recent, highly successful side-by-side concert with the Clarence Orchestra at the Center for the Arts, Main Stage Theater.
FREE INSTRUMENT LESSONS
Eligible members of the orchestra will be invited to take instrumental lessons FOR FREE with the distinguished faculty of the UB Music Department. (which includes some members of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra)

The orchestra holds a yearly concerto competition, in which UB students are chosen to feature as soloists for the following season.

Auditions are brief, relaxed and informal and are a very good moment for all members to meet the conductor and vice versa. Each member (new or returning) should play for the audition any music of their choice (ideally something slow and something faster, it could be selections from works or etudes.)
In order to audition, all students must be registered for the course (see course numbers below) and sign up for an audition slot on the board of 302 Baird, anytime STARTING on August 15 [for the Fall Semester Auditions] or starting on December 15 [for the Spring Semester Auditions].
Auditions will take place during the first (and if necessary also second) week of classes.
(The first day of auditions for the Fall is August 26, 2008)
At the beginning of the Fall Semester all positions will be auditioned.
Important: Some of the most advanced members of the UB Symphony Orchestra will be especially invited to play also with the UB Contemporary Ensemble (Abraxas Ensemble). The experience of playing cutting-edge new music in a more intimate setting is the perfect complement for members of the orchestra who would like to pursue a professional career in music. |
