June in Buffalo 2008 will offer an extraordinary opportunity to work with a distinguished, international faculty of composers and researchers, leading experts in algorithmic, interactive, multimedia, acousmatic, and electroacoustic computer music.
Presented by the Department of Music and The Robert and Carol Morris Center for 21st Century Music, June in Buffalo, a festival and conference dedicated to composers, will take place from June 2-7, 2008 at the University at Buffalo. June in Buffalo offers an intensive schedule of seminars, lectures, master classes with selected faculty composers, workshops, professional presentations, participant forums and open rehearsals as well as afternoon and evening concerts open to the general public and critics. Each of the invited composers will have one of his/her pieces performed during the festival (please see application procedures below). Evening performances feature faculty composers, resident ensembles and soloists renowned internationally as interpreters of contemporary music.

Application Procedures
- 1. A résumé or curriculum vitae detailing your education, experience, and creative activity.
- 2. A letter of reference from someone acquainted with your current compositional activity.
- 3. A proposal requesting the performance of a recent work for:
- a) recorded medium for 1 to 4 channels (please specify performance format).
- b) instrument(s) plus recorded sounds on recorded medium (please specify performance format).
- c) instrument(s) plus live electronics
- d) live electronic work (not requiring performers supplied by the festival)
- e) algorithmic instrumental work without electronics
- PLEASE NOTE:
- All ochrestral instruments are available (including harp, guitar, percussion) except bassoon. Pieces for Solo Voice in the above categories will also be considered
- In ALL categories involving instruments, works should be for between 1-3 players. Composers are encouraged to submit pieces for SOLO instruments. In ANY category involving live electronics, composers MUST guarantee responsibility for all electronics. We will have on hand sound engineers, computers, audio interfaces, cabling, microphones, etc., but composers are encouraged to perform with their own computers/interfaces. If submitting in this category, and planning to use an on-site computer, a list of hardware/software required, patches, and/or code, standalone applications etc. needed to perform the work MUST be provided with your application.) Multimedia works involving live or recorded video, motion tracking, sensors, etc., may also be included. Included with the proposal should be a brief discussion of how the piece relates to this year's theme: Music and Computers. Works in progress may be submitted; however a substantial portion of the work must be enclosed.
- 4. One or two scores that demonstrate recent work and accompanying recordings, if available.
- 5. A $25 non-refundable processing fee. Checks or money orders should be made payable to June in Buffalo. Foreign applicants must pay by international money order in US currency. Do not send cash.
- 6. A SASE for the return of materials and an e-mail address at which you can be easily contacted.
- To apply as an auditor please send a resume and the processing fee. Auditors attend all June in Buffalo events, but will not have a piece performed.
